GO REBELS!

September 5, 2007

Former McKenzie all-stater Anna Trull won two Best of the West honors for top female athlete and top basketball player. Trull, now a member of the Bethel College Lady Wildcat basketball team, was left MHS as the Lady Rebels' all-time leading scorer.

Rebels Best of the West once again

McKenzie High School, athletes honored

By JIM STEELE
mckenzierebels.com

For the second straight year, McKenzie High School has earned the coveted Best of the West all-sports trophy for Class A schools.

The Rebels also listed eight athletes and three coaches to elite individual honors.

McKenzie had yet another good athletic year. The football team won the Region 7A title and reached the second round of the Class A state playoffs. The golf teams reached the regional tournament, Mark Cole reached state in cross country. The boys' basketball team finished second in the District 13A tournament and was the regular-season co-champion. The girls' basketball team was the District 13A regular-season champ. In baseball, the Rebel baseball team advanced to substate, the soccer team made it to the second round of the 13A-AA tournament and the track team had three participants reach the state meet.

Individually, Mark Cole was the cross country and track athlete of the year; MiRanda West was cited for softball, Zana Carter - girls track; Derek Carr - top male athlete; David Duncan - boys' track coach; Bert Snow, girls' track coach; Wade Comer - Class A football coach; Anna Trull - female athlete and basketball; Glenn Smith - Class A baseball; Kristi Petering - Golf; Justin Rogers - football.

Usually, there is a banquet held at Dyersburg High School each year. Richard Vandergrift, who heads up Best of the West, opted not to have a banquet this year, instead distributing the honors to each school.

McKenzie will get to keep the all-sports trophy for another year.
